Elise's Scatterplot

A scatterplot is a powerful visualization that plots two different measures. Each dot represents the intersection of those two values. Scatterplots can be effective when displaying correlation (how two variables relate to each other), trends (patterns), and clusters (grouping of similar variables) of data points.

They are easy to read as the orientation of the category is displayed in proper alignment. Horizontal bar charts are effective for displaying rank, part-to-whole, diverging data, magnitude, length, and more!

Vertical Bar Chart (aka Column Chart) – They are easy to read and simple to create! Examples of use cases include displaying rank, height, correlation (when paired with a line chart), pareto charts, change over time, magnitude, and ordinal data.
